Hall Wall Art – Modern Victorian

My hall gallery art wall is very nearly complete. Well it was, but 2 frames have been broken. So it’s missing two frames and I need to make another bit of art for another frame.

It sympathises with the Victorian style, as Victorians would have covered every inch of the walls with frames.

How to Create the Shabby Chic Effect

  • I sanded the frames and then painted them with a grey egg shell.
  • I then gave them a light sand and applied candle wax to certain areas
  • I then painted the final coat (red/black/caramel – which flows through the house)
  • I finally gave them a light sanding

The mirrors bounce light around the hall and create a more spacious feeling.

The light fits with the shabby chic style of the art and a similar style of chandelier type lighting is used throughout the house.

Didn’t do much this weekend as it was my birthday. Dad finished fitting the kitchen plinths. We got the TV and mirror up on the lounge wall and the toilet roll holder and towel rail onto the shower room wall. We also ate a lot of Chinese!

Mum’s lent me her antique clock, unfortunately it’s not working, but I think its the suspension wire. Will get it looked at by a repair person sometime. I happen to live near to the world famous Jewellery Quarter which is handy. Until then, it can just look good and always tell me its 6.53.

Putting the TV on the wall opened up the floor space and putting the mirror up on the wall added to the room size immediately.
